MONEY IN, NOT MONEY OUT - MINDSET

The tap life (paypass) is in full swing and doesn’t look like ever stopping. I know at the MCG during a footy game now there are ‘tap only’ bars. Cash is dying, and just like fidget spinners one day kids might not even know these things existed.

The tap lyf is a little too easy… Nothing physically is getting exchanged so tapping $4.60 for a pump bottle of water looks exactly the same as tapping for a $94.30 slab of condoms from Costco.

There are things we do that make us money and there are things that we do that… saw it coming, spend money.

For most of us it’s the spending we’re good at and the making that we suck at. Don’t worry, most of us suck at the making bit.

Here is something to just start considering, it’s similar to my article Buy Shit That Makes You Money. Spending money on something that will never help you make money back may not be the right way to spend your money.

It’s time to make a judgment call when you bring out that card to put on the cashier box thing and say ‘this is money going out, it is assisting in money coming in?’

It goes beyond the card and more into the mindset. Australia has the worst credit card debt in the world… The world… What greedy fucks we are. We’re taught to think we need credit cards, we’re built to indulge and through marketing we’re told we can’t be left out of that latest cool thing.

We think about our next purchase before we think about the next way we can make a dollar.

That’s the thing that needs to swap around.

What is the way I can make my next dollar? Then I can purchase those wireless Bose headphones that are the hottest thing right now.

Just off the top of my head suggestions for ‘money in’ mindset.

  1. What skills do you have? Can you freelance at nights/weekends?

  2. Thing you could sell a fresh/hot product? Find a supplier on Alibaba.com and make a shop on Shopify.

  3. Sell yo’ ass. (jokez)

  4. Sell things around the house.

They key is simply – How can money go INTO my account, not out.

If you can start walking around with that mindset then you might start getting rid of the credit card debt. Also you don’t need the next best thing… If it works fine, then don’t be a goose and still upgrade. I still have the first Beats by Dr. Dre, they are a bit dusted up but the sound is still great. Yes the marketing from Bose to get those new wireless headphones is doing a great job physiologically. I feel like I’m missing out, but I also know it’s not a necessary purchase.

Not only will they not bring in any money (not a tool for my business), it’s also a waste of mental time. I should be thinking about how I could do something for Bose, how I could maybe go on Alibaba and buy 400 headphone cases and sell those mofo’s. THEN buy Bose headphones then… Maybe a slab of condoms.

Switch thinking to money IN, not money out.
